Background: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a long-term respiratory condition marked by a gradual decline in airflow that cannot be fully reversed, caused by abnormalities in the airways and lung structures such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It remains one of the leading causes of global morbidity and mortality. Age and gender are suspected to influence COPD severity, though previous findings have been inconsistent. Methods: This study applied an analytical quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design using secondary data from the medical records of COPD patients at Dr. H. A. Rotinsulu Pulmonary Hospital, Bandung, from 2020 to 2024. A total of 135 patients meeting inclusion criteria were selected through consecutive sampling. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate tests, with Spearman Rank for age and Chi-Square for gender. Results: Most respondents were male (74.8%) and over 60 years old, with the majority having very severe COPD (45.9%). Statistical analysis showed no significant relationship between age (p = 0.956) or gender (p = 0.359) and the severity of COPD (p > 0.05). Conclusion: There was no significant association between age and gender with COPD severity. Behavioral and environmental factors, such as smoking habits and pollutant exposure, may play a greater role in disease progression.
